ImpressionsWhen I first held an iPad I couldn’t quite understand why I would ever need such a device. It was large, wouldn’t fit in my pocket and didn’t seem to apply to any of my day to day activities. Being intrigued by the comments of the intrawebs I soon found myself interested.
One thing the intrawebs rarely does is lie, many iPad reviewers and hardware hackers were making comments like “Wow, I didn’t realize I needed one”. Fast forward a few months later. I am proud to say that I am a happy owner of an iPad. It has opened my eyes to the possibility of computing. The iPad is an intuitive device for wide gamut of individuals. Anyone from a toddler, to an elderly person, to everyone in between can quickly pick up an iPad and begin exploring.
UsageIf you are on the fence about getting iPad, do it. In my instance, I will use the iPad for the following applications (the more I use it, the more applications I find):
- Demo user interface and websites (The iPad gives clients and their customers a much more interactive experience)
- Quickly check and send emails
- Scan and update my calendar
- Navigate using maps (GPS Only)
- Read Books
- A few distractions via Games
Additional Functionality *
Although my iPad does many of the functions I need, I ended up taking mine to the next level (Jail breaking via GreenPois0n
http://www.greenpois0n.com/ ) to gain the following:
- Multi-Tasking (Activator/ProSwitcher
- Files and Folder Browsing
- Custom Themes and tighter mods (Winterboard/Summerboard)
- SSH/Terminal (Terminal)
- Full Res iphone/ipod apps (FullForce)
- Extra Exchange Accounts (AddExchange)
What’s nextI will do my best to keep my blog updated with any tricks or tips I learn for the iPad (you can also follow my stale work blog on
http://wncit.com/blog/). Again, if you are thinking of getting an iPad, do it. It will open your mind to new possibilities of computing.
*my patience is non-existent when it comes to technology. Apple is getting ready to release an update to the ipad, it will include folders + multi-tasking + printing. If you have an iPad and are on the fence about jail-breaking, wait! As always, Apple does a much better job with their updates when compared to others. h0zae
